Open-source AI coding assistant pivoted to 'source-controlled AI checks, enforceable in CI.' CLI-first agent mode, AI Checks as GitHub status checks on every PR, and Mission Control for cloud agent orchestration.
Full model flexibility with BYOK and self-hosting. Mistral Code (OEM on Continue) deployed at SNCF (4K devs) and Capgemini (1.5K devs) validates enterprise demand.
Enterprise-focused CEO (Chad Metcalf, ex-Docker/Cloudera/Puppet) installed May 2025 with founders retained (Ty Dunn CPO, Nate Sesti CTO). Defensible niche as the open-source PR-time policy enforcement layer (distinct from Cursor Rules and Claude Code memories which operate at authoring time).
CAUTION — ACQUIRED BY CURSOR (acqui-hire, ~June 2026): standalone product is shutting down (data-export deadline July 15, 2026); code donated to community under Apache 2.0. Effectively end-of-life as a standalone tool — pending archive (flag deferred to post-#263). (Prior risk: seed-only funding ~$5.6M, ~19 employees.)

Status rationale
Assessed because open-source flexibility, defensible PR-time enforcement positioning, and expanding enterprise reach via Mistral Code OEM (SNCF, Capgemini) show clear enterprise trajectory with substantial evidence base. Governance limited by absence of compliance certifications (no SOC 2, no ISO 27001) and mature admin controls (no SCIM).
Viability concern: seed-only funding (~$5.6M) for a 19-person team in a competitive market warrants monitoring.
Movement triggers
Upgrade if: Series A raised (extends runway, signals enterprise credibility), SOC 2 obtained, SCIM or advanced audit controls added, direct named F500 customer confirmed on Continue's own platform, or Hub marketplace publishes growth metrics validating ecosystem traction. Downgrade if: development pace slows to <1 release/month, community-maintained JetBrains plugin degrades meaningfully, pivot alienates IDE extension user base, Mistral Code OEM relationship dissolves, or GitHub Copilot Code Review materially eats the PR-time enforcement use case.
