Transform
AWS's agentic service for enterprise legacy modernization.
Dimension breakdown
Score · confidenceAWS's agentic service for enterprise legacy modernization. May 2026 one-year milestone: 4.5B+ lines of code processed, 1.6M+ hours saved, hundreds of thousands of VMs migrated.
Consumption surface now spans an AWS Transform MCP server, Kiro Power, agent plugins for Claude/Cursor/Codex, an agentic AI assistant in the VS Toolkit/VS Code, a headless non-interactive CLI, and a REST API (7 endpoints, bulk batches of thousands) for CI/CD-native automation. May 2026 also added containerization (GitHub/Bitbucket/GitLab → Docker → ECR → ECS/EKS), BI migration agents (Power BI/Tableau → QuickSight), and agentic/modernization readiness assessments on a re-architected agent stack (up to 2x performance).
Free for Windows/.NET/mainframe/VMware/containerization; $0.035/agent-minute for custom code with clear cost examples. Strong compliance inheritance (FedRAMP High, SOC 2, PCI DSS, HIPAA) plus AWS European Sovereign Cloud (GA Jan 2026).
Scope remains modernization-only — not for greenfield development; InfoWorld notes output quality depends on codebase consistency and still requires senior-engineer grounding/review.

Status rationale
Tracked. AWS Transform continues to expand its consumption surface (MCP server, Kiro Power, Claude/Cursor/Codex plugins, VS Toolkit/VS Code AI assistant, headless CLI, REST API, partner Marketplace agents) and workflow depth (containerization, BI migration, automated codebase analysis, readiness assessments) on a near-weekly cadence.
Strong AWS institutional commitment (Q1 2026 +28%, 15-quarter high), a one-year track record of 4.5B+ lines processed and 1.6M+ hours saved, broad Fortune 500 deployments (Thomson Reuters, Experian, CSL, Bridgestone, ADP), and a validated GSI ecosystem (Accenture, Capgemini, IBM, Infosys, Deloitte, TCS) support a Market-Leader viability score. However, scope remains modernization-only — not general-purpose development — which prevents elevation to Assessed without hands-on production evidence or scope expansion.
The historical May 2025 24-month lock-up controversy has been resolved (Section 50.14 removed within 24 hours) and is not a current risk signal. No active caps.
Movement triggers
Upgrade to Assessed if: hands-on production deployment is completed within WWT or a tracked enterprise account; OR MCP/headless integration enables general-purpose coding beyond modernization. Monitor: continued Marketplace partner-agent adoption, AWS European Sovereign Cloud regional expansion and Transform service availability within ESC, containerization adoption rate among existing migration customers, real-world agent accuracy on inconsistent codebases (per InfoWorld caveat), any expansion beyond modernization scope.
Downgrade if: feature velocity stalls for 90+ days, named customer departures, or new enterprise-blocking pricing/terms changes (verify against historical May 2025 24-month lock-up incident that was resolved within 24 hours).
