Google's AI-native UI design tool generating interfaces from prompts, voice, images, URLs, or existing codebases/design files using Gemini models. Google I/O 2026 (May 20) shipped a real-time STREAMING design agent (steerable mid-generation, replacing turn-based flow) and free simultaneous MULTIPLAYER co-editing (Google Docs-style) — closing the single-user limitation that was its biggest gap vs Figma.

Also added an Agent Manager, Netlify direct-publish, and Antigravity export. Code export across React/Tailwind, HTML/CSS, Vue, Angular, Flutter, SwiftUI (~70-90% first-pass usability).

Stitch MCP is a first-class integration in Google's Antigravity IDE (official codelab) plus Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Codex via stitch-skills/stitch-sdk. DESIGN.md portable design-context spec is achieving category-defining adoption (VoltAgent/awesome-design-md at ~83k stars, global rank #157, 12.6% fork rate).

Entirely FREE in Google Labs (350 standard + 200 pro generations/month); no committed paid/enterprise tier yet (Labs exit + $10-15/mo speculated for Q4 2026).

Caution

persistent reliability/quality complaints — editing breaks when refining single components, overfitting to recent prompts, lost iteration steerability post-March update, and 'generic' design ceiling; Google offered DESIGN.md workarounds, not a fix.

No verified enterprise compliance (no SSO/RBAC/audit logs/SOC 2 for Stitch itself; cloud-only; training opt-out only via global Gemini Apps Activity). Google Labs continuity risk persists (Firebase Studio precedent).

Assessment

Status rationale

Tracked via research-based monitoring with strong, multi-source coverage (official Google I/O blog, Stitch docs/SDK/MCP repos, Google AI Developers Forum, and broad independent review/comparison coverage) and a clear factual baseline (free Labs product, Gemini-backed, real-time streaming + multiplayer co-editing shipped at I/O 2026, DESIGN.md category momentum at ~83k stars). Held below Assessed by: no hands-on testing, no named enterprise customers, no verified enterprise compliance, a triggered reliability-complaints cap (output-quality and editing-steerability complaint pattern), and unresolved Google Labs continuity risk.

I/O 2026 materially deepened investment; next evaluation should incorporate any Labs-exit/commercial-roadmap announcement and hands-on validation.

Watch for

Movement triggers

Upgrade to Assessed if: Google Labs exit announced with committed commercial roadmap and pricing; hands-on production validation completed by an internal team; primary-source enterprise compliance (SOC 2 / SSO / RBAC / audit logs for Stitch itself) verified against an official Stitch trust center. Downgrade to Watch if: Google discontinues or merges Stitch into another product (Firebase Studio precedent); reliability/quality complaints escalate into community exodus or sentiment 1-2 (severe-negative-sentiment); development stalls (no releases 90+ days). reliability-complaints cap lifts after 90+ days of improved reliability with community acknowledgment of fixes; no-enterprise-features cap lifts if an enterprise tier ships with SSO/audit/compliance.
